feeling and mood that is intended. Among these are camera shots, sound, mise-en-scène, and editing. These are essential in creating a film and the feeling that the audience gets. The camera shots throughout the extract stays somewhat consistent. It begins with an establishing shot, and the angle remains at the mid-body or slightly higher for most of the video. There are times where it will change to a low angle, like when the two girls are talking, and the guys comes over as well as when the bartender is talking and carrying drinks. When the girls are talking, the low angle allows people to see things from their point of view, and when the bartender is talking with the drinks, it allows the audience to see more of the setting. The movement seems to be mostly tracking as well as dolly. The camera follows along with the girl for a while, with one smooth movement. There are also times where the camera will follow along with cars and other things in the building with the same movement. Because the camera is mostly focused on her, it draws a lot of attention to her and what she is doing. It also helps the audience know who they should be paying attention to when the focus switches from the girl to someone else. During conversations, the camera almost never shows the two people talking in the same shot. It always switches from one person’s close-up to the other during these times. These different techniques used with the camera are beneficial for the audience even though they may never realize how important it is. There are many sounds used to help with the mood and feeling of the extract. For example, there is dark, suspicious music being played when the girl sees a car crash in a game and jumps back. This helps place the idea of her having a bad history with accidents or something that has happened in her past that still bothers her. There is an emphasis on the low sigh that the girl gives, which can help show her feelings at that time, which is most likely annoyed, bothered, or tired. There is a lot of background noise, which helps set the scene. There were a lot of sound effects from games and music, and this shows that it is a popular place for people to hang out. Sound effects from the girl playing the video game while she is talking to the guy suggests that she is still playing the game, even though we can only their faces. The dialogue was interesting in the extract. The girl appeared to be shy and quiet, but once she started talking, it was clear that she was confident. These sounds help draw in the attention of the audience and also add to the overall feel. Mise-en-scène is another aspect that adds to the extract. The setting appears to be in the 1980’s because of the outfits people are wearing, as well as the large amount of neon color. There is an arcade with a lot of people inside, which was a popular hangout place in the 80’s. This helps hint at the time period. There is a difference in clothes that makes the girl stand out more than others. She is wearing clothes that some may think to be nerdy or more reserved, and she has very natural makeup. This is different compared to the other girls because they are wearing clothes that are trendier and have bolder makeup looks and colors. This adds to the idea that the girl is different and is the main focus in the film. The editing does not have as large of an effect on the extract as the other aspects do, but it is still important. There are many long takes of the girl when she is walking. This allows the audience to see her and try to read her facial expressions, but also to see the setting and what is going on around her. As previously stated, there is an eyeline match when the guy comes over while the two girls are talking. This makes it possible for the audience to see what the other characters are seeing. This has a similar affect to the film as camera shots. These different aspects are crucial in making a successful film. They allow the audience to see much more and have a deeper understanding of what is occurring. Without camera shots, sound, mise-en-scène, and editing, films would be nowhere near and dramatic, entertaining, and successful.
