This article discusses the different ways that the news affects a persons mental health. It describes in depth how there is so much negativity that is shown and is watched by millions of people for many hours a day. However, people have become so accustomed to seeing negative things that when positive things happening in the world are discussed on the news, a significant number of viewers is lost. There have been many studies done to prove how news can be damaging to a persons mental health. In fact, it has been found that watching terrorist attacks over and over on the news and constantly hearing about it can lead to mental health problems that are similar to those who have witnessed the attack or have been affected by it in some way.
I agree that the news is very damaging to mental health. During lockdown for COVID-19, the news was constantly talking amount the number of deaths every day and the many protests that were occurring. Hearing about so many deaths and seeing the nation divided on the news made life a lot harder knowing what was happening around me. There have been many other situations where there was a terrorist attack or a shooting, and hearing about it so often made me start to feel a decline in my mental health even though I had no relation to the event itself or anyone who had been affected by it.

Discuss the issues raised in the targeting of national and local audiences by international or global institutions.
Large film institutions targeting national and local audiences can create many issues in the film industry. However, the main problem with this is the way it takes away from other smaller companies who are not able to show off their product the same way larger companies do. For example, Warner Bros. is a very large and famous film institution. They have many famous movies and are able to produce their media internationally. Because Warner Bros. has produced so many great movies, people now know that upcoming Warner Bros. films are likely going to be great and something they will want to see. However, there are smaller film institutions, such as Aviron Pictures, who are much less well known and do not get the same kind of recognition as others. This company produces their films nationally and have a much harder time having their films become as well-known as others from larger companies. Both of these film institutions produce their product the same way. They can be viewed in cinemas, DVD’s, downloads on technological devices, and many more way. They also try to promote their products the same way. Advertising is a big part of the film industry and creating trailers and promoting those on television and at cinemas is very important. Because companies like Warner Bros. are much more popular than companies like Aviron Pictures, it is likely that Warner Bros. will have more advertisements and money to continue them. Being the “Big Guy” can be very beneficial in the way that their films will almost always have large audiences because of their reputation and the amount of money they have for advertising. However, having so many people watching and criticizing their films can become an issue. If they produce a film that receives many bad reviews, it can damage their image and reputation. Being the “Little Guy” also has its advantages. There is always room to grow, and many people are curious and interested in watching films from smaller companies. Also, due to the fact that there is usually a much smaller audience, these companies are able to try new things with their films and experiment more than larger companies can. However, it is very difficult for these “Little Guys” to make it big with large institutions targeting audiences and always standing in their way. I have noticed many times while listening to the radio and podcasts that once the provider learns about new interests in audiences, the media that they produce changes to fit these new likes. For example, many people have started looking into zodiac signs and wanting to learn more about them, so many podcasts and some music apps (like Spotify) have made specific podcasts or playlists based on zodiac signs. Because media follows the likes and interests of audiences, the content provided is often changed to fit those, which is the main pattern that I have noticed. Once something because trendy and many people take up a big interest in it, media providers change their content to supply the demand.
1. Setting: This is an important element because it gives more insight into the character. For example, posters around a bedroom and the state of their room, whether it is messy or not. These aspects allow the audience to understand more about the character, who they are, and their mental state.
2. Decor: This is important to Mise en Scene because it is often very symbolic. Some examples of the symbolism is color and texture, which helps the audience see more about the story or character. Often, the color blue is symbolic of a cold and harsh place, while green is symbolic of nature. The fabric velvet is a symbolism for luxury. 3. Lighting: This often sets the mood for a scene. For example, a horror film may have dark lighting and many shadows, while a comedy will be very bright and well lit. It often gives hints to the audience on how they should feel about certain films or scenes. 4. Depth of Space: This can be described as distance between people and things in scenes that are effected by the placement around the camera. This helps keeps the audiences focus to things onscreen. It also often shows the audience what they should be looking at or focusing on. 5. Costumes and Makeup: This is very importance to Mise en Scene because it gives much insight into the character and who they really are. It often represents their personality and stands out against the background. This also provides a dramatic effect depending on what the costumes and makeup are like. For example, if there is very dark makeup and costumes, it shows the audience what the mood of the film and character is and adds more drama. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I learned how to use many different technological elements in order to make my magazine. There were many new websites I learned to use and different elements that each website had that was special. Some of the main technologies that I used was Canva, Photopea, and Microsoft Word. I needed them all for different things, for example Word gave me a place to write notes, and Canva and Photopea had many different elements that helped me put everything together. This was something that I needed in order to make my magazine more advanced and to put so many different things into one. What significance does the continuing development of digital media technology have for media institutions and audiences?
The continuous development of digital media technology changes so many things for media institutions and audiences. For example, media institutions must understand that their products are going to be viewed on a plethora of different devices. If they continue to make films that are fit for the big screens at movie theaters but are not able to be adjusted for someone who wants to watch it on their phone, they will lose millions of dollars in revenue. With the evolution of digital media technology, media institutions need to make sure that their products can keep up with it. Companies like Netflix and Hulu are becoming very popular, which changes the way the audience views media as well. They no longer have to leave their house to go to a movie theater to buy movie tickets and watch the movie out, but they can stay at home and buy it on their device instead. They can also find magazines online or have subscriptions to magazines that will allow them to digitally receive a new magazine every month while only having to pay a certain amount in the beginning of the subscription. Because there are so many technological advances, audiences view digital media in many different ways. With the continual development, it is assumed that there will be many more ways for the audience to view digital media and many more changes that media institutions will have to make in order to keep up. The first image is the revised magazine cover and the second is the original. I changed the color of the title because I felt the orange was a bit too bold. I put shadows under the title as well to make it stand out more. I added text that says "Go where you feel most alive!" because I feel that it matches the theme of the magazine and will attract the target audience. I also changed the color of the smaller text around the magazine because I feel that it goes better with the colors that are around it in the background.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Explain research, using different applications, layout and design of your magazine or video.
My production skills became much better throughout this project. I have learned how to do better research on the topics I want in my magazine, as well as some research on how to create a good magazine (cover, table of contents, etc.). I also learned how to use different tools to make the cover and table of contents to appear as nice as possible. I learned how to place different elements on the pages; for example, on the cover I learned where I should and shouldn't put text and how big it should be. Color scheme is another big thing I learned while developing this magazine. What colors go together and what colors do not is a big thing that can make or break your magazine, and I discovered that they should almost match some of the colors in the background, but never put the same or similar colors on top of or next to each other because that can cause confusion and often mess with the readers eyes. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audiences by having ideas and articles that would interest them and that they can relate to. For example, my product would have articles on new equipment to buy for activities, such as hiking or camping, and will also discuss new places to go and what new activities people can do there. This helps engage with audiences because it is something that will draw their attention to my product and something that will make them want to read it. It will also help them with some of their travel issues and provide an array of new ideas. My product will be distributed as a real media text via magazine as well as a website. There are some people who do not pay attention to magazines in stores when they are shopping, which is why my product would also be a website where some articles can be read and the full magazine can be purchased. My product is a magazine, so it will also be distributed as a regular magazine that is sold in stores. It will mainly be sold as a regular magazine, and the website will only have a few articles for people to preview and then they will be able to purchase the full magazine through the website. There is a voiceover during the flashback. It is almost as though there is narration. This is a non-diegetic sound because no one else in the scene can hear it, it is only for the audience. Suspenseful music begins to play, which adds to the feeling and mood that the audience feels while watching it. This is also a non-diegetic sound, because only the audience can hear it. After the suspenseful music begins, the man is in his backyard and there are birds chirping and a calm essence. It is an environmental sound because it is caused by the animals and environment surrounding the man. It is also a diegetic sound because it comes from the environment in the film, and the people in the film can hear them as well. There are duck sound effects to show that they are nearby. This is also diegetic sound, as well as environmental. Music only plays when people are not speaking, which makes it easier to understand and removes any chance of awkward silence. This a soundtrack music, as well as a non-diegetic sound.
